For example, N44 maps tend to be smaller, so there's less of a front to defend, while 2 has a 'quick hunt' order ('hunt' being these games' version of 'attack move:' N44 makes you choose between moving quickly on roads but being vulnerable to ambushes, or attack-moving, but not gaining the speed advantage of roads). The way I see it, N44 is easier, but 2 has more features. I don't play multiplayer, so your mileage may vary. I personally prefer N44 over 2, but that's just my preference.
